Professor Robert Constable

Professor Robert Constable is a composer, pianist and music scholar who has had a distinguished career in Australian music education. He taught piano and musicology at both Sydney and Newcastle Conservatoria. From 1994 he held the position of Professor of Music and Dean of the Faculty of Music (Conservatorium) at the University of Newcastle. In this position he transformed the Newcastle Conservatorium into an internationally recognised music school with many links in Asia, the UK and the USA.

Renowned as an innovative leader in the field of music education, Robert Constable was for some years chair of the Council of Heads of Music Schools in Australia (NACTMUS) and was also a National Board member of Musica Viva Australia. Lastly (but not, least significantly) Robert has accompanied the jewels of silent cinema: Chaplin and Buster Keaton in particular!
